The Academy’s school values are expressed in our acronym KG-PRIDE. We use this acronym as a cultural touchstone and it drives all that we do.
KAIZEN and GAMBATTE are Japanese words that describe the essence of our culture. The short version is that we work hard, together, and we are always looking for improvement. We use these phrases continually – in our classrooms and hallways, in awards given at our weekly ceremonies, and in the work of our faculty.KAIZEN - is a Japanese principle meaning continual improvement of ourselves and our community. We engage in daily rituals and routines that help us grow as individuals and as a community.
GAMBATTE - is a Japanese word meaning "persist and never give up." It is our belief that that our success is based on our effort not on luck.
PRIDE - represents the larger pride we have in the school as well as each individual value included in the acronym. It is pride in accomplishment, in achieving our ambitious goals.
Purpose - is having goals for each action and interaction throughout the year.
Respect - is treating people with politeness, consideration and appreciation.
Integrity - is being true to your values and doing the right thing when no one is looking.
Daring - is mustering the strength and will to do what you know you should do, even though you are afraid of embarrassment, failure or danger.
Excellence - is striving for a high standard in your daily actions no matter how big or small.Our culture of achievement is built on KG-PRIDE. Everyone in the Academy community – students, families, and faculty – is committed to working hard together to realize our mission of all students achieving the highest academic and personal standards.
Both our middle and high schools have rituals and routines that help students practice and ultimately internalize our character virtues, including daily classroom cleaning, greetings and handshakes, a full uniform and strict discipline code, and a weekly ceremony culminating in the Gambatte Award. Our school culture fosters students’ academic success by creating a purposeful environment focused on hard work and achievement.
